Cefuroxime 500mg tablet is a prescription-only, oral antibiotic containing cefuroxime (as axetil) 500 mg, belonging to the second-generation cephalosporin group. It is broad-spectrum, effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and works by blocking the formation of bacterial cell walls — causing bacteria to die and infection to clear. It is more stable and works against more resistant bacteria than first-generation versions, and is often used when amoxicillin is not suitable or likely to fail.
