Cefalexin 250mg Suspension is a prescription-only oral antibiotic liquid, containing cefalexin (as monohydrate), equivalent to 250 mg cefalexin per 5 mL when reconstituted with water. It belongs to first-generation cephalosporins, works by stopping bacteria from building cell walls — killing them and clearing infection. Ideal for children (1–12 years) or adults who cannot swallow tablets; widely used for common bacterial infections, especially skin, ear and throat issues.

- Active: 250 mg cefalexin per 5 mL prepared liquid
- Inactive: Sweeteners, fruit flavor (strawberry/cherry/orange), thickeners, preservatives, sugar/sucrose
- Before mixing: White, pale pink or light orange dry powder/granules
- After mixing: Smooth, sweet, colored liquid with fruity smell

Treats mild–moderate confirmed bacterial infections:
- Ear: middle ear infection (otitis media)

- Skin & soft tissue: cellulitis, abscesses, wounds, boils, impetigo

- Adults / children >40 kg: 5 mL (250 mg) every 6–8 hours (3–4 times daily); max 4g/day
- Children <40 kg / 1–12 years: Dosed by weight: 25–50 mg/kg/day, split into 3 or 4 doses
- Example: 10 kg = 2 mL (100 mg) 3x daily; 20 kg = 4 mL (200 mg) 3x daily
- Can take with or without food
- How to use:
- Add water in 2 parts, shake vigorously until fully mixed
- Shake well BEFORE EVERY DOSE
- Measure exact amount; can mix with milk/juice if needed
- Finish full 5–7 day course — even if better; prevents resistance & relapse
- Storage:
- Dry powder: cool, dry, <30°C, away from light
- After mixing: refrigerate (2–8°C), use within 7–14 days, discard leftover
โ ๏ธ Side Effects
Most mild & temporary:
- Common: diarrhea, loose stools, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, rash, headache, or oral thrush
- Less common: tiredness, dizziness, temporary tooth discoloration (brushes off)
- โ ๏ธ WARNING:
- DO NOT USE if allergic to cephalosporins; use carefully if penicillin-allergic (5–10% cross-reaction risk)
- Severe reaction: hives, swelling face/lips/tongue, trouble breathing → go to hospital immediately
- Rare: severe diarrhea, kidney or liver changes, blood disorders
